What did you do for Halloween? I spent my Halloween having a home cooked steamboat dinner with my house mates! Please note that the above doesn’t show the actual amount of food. We had some babi, two types of mushrooms, meatballs, spinach, and two types of tofu accompanied by tom yam soup. Yumms!

.

I don’t know about the rest, but I was pretty stuffed. There were five of us, so the amount of food was alright.

Instant noodles; the first thing I ate when I woke up today, accompanied by some True Blood.

.

I don’t know why, but I find it quite sad when people tell me they’re having instant noodles for their meal. I mean, I do that too. Probably the sad thing is that you don’t have anyone to eat it with – or you don’t have any other food besides plain ol’ instant noodles.

.

You gotta admit though; instant noodles taste pretty good.

Went to Ipoh for dinner on an impulsive decision. Basically it was to avoid somebody’s mother. :P

.

If we go to Ipoh, we will either eat chicken rice, or McDonald’s. Usually we’d eat the chicken rice at Lou Wong’s, but this time we thought we’d try Ong Kee’s. I think I still prefer Lou Wong’s bean sprouts, cause they add more pepper to theirs.

.

Today was an improvement! I finished all my dinner, and I also had a small second helping of rice. x)

Today, Apple, Say Tar and I went to the waterfalls after our lunch. As it’s pretty dangerous to drive up (also totally damaging to the car), we decided to park at the base and hike all the way up. Hiking up the slope is no mean feat, but it was awesome exercise! I’ve gotten just enough endorphins to hype me up to do this post.

.

.

I was trying to play around with my camera’s shutter speed on the flowing water – I wanted to create the gassy-dry-ice effect that you get when you use a slow shutter speed, but then my images came out overexposed. :( Le sigh. I need more practice on this. Oh and excuse the blue tint on the picture; I forgot to change the white balance on my camera.

.

There were also a lot of big butterflies at the waterfall – totally awesome photography subject and I would’ve used them as the #2 for my Project 365 but then my camera had to run out of juice before I could get a good shot. :( The other shots are all crappy. I really need to get a new set of rechargeable batteries. The only bad thing about this camera is that it uses AA batteries.

.

I also need to get a bikini. And I think it’s not such a good idea to go to the waterfalls on a Sunday. Too many people. Haha.

A few days ago I cleaned out the fridge. It is now devoid of random plastic bags, suspicious-looking curly black hair, dust bunnies and marmalade jam spills.

You can tell that I’m really bored, ay?

9am madness April 29, 2009

Filed under: Bad moods, Kampar Life — ponnie @ 11:03 am

This morning I was awakened at the ungodly hour of 9am by crazy loud hammerings in the next house. I know 9am isn’t that early, but if you slept at 6am it is. I tried to cover my ears but the hammerings were really, really loud. I hammered my own fist against the wall but it didn’t do any good. So I went outside my room and discovered that the entire house could hear that insanely loud hammering.

I was really annoyed that it woke me up, so I got my keys and went next door. There was nobody downstairs, and since the door was slightly ajar, I went upstairs. This plump girl came out and I asked her in English what was the noise. She answered in Mandarin and I was like, “What??” in English. She continued talking in Mandarin.

Nothing annoys me more than someone who continues to talk in a language that I clearly don’t understand when I already spoke to them in a different language. Like, hello, if I could talk in Mandarin I would have already done so??

So anyway, when it finally got to her that I couldn’t understand Mandarin, she then had difficulty explaining in English that the management was fixing a leaky pipe. Well, at least, that’s what I think she said in Mandarin. She couldn’t even said “leak” in English. I take off my hat to her if she ever manages to get through university with a 2.0 cgpa.

Anyway, I went back and tried to sleep, but couldn’t. Thanks to the hammering, I was awake, and hungry. Luckily the hammerings were only done periodically, and I fell asleep out of exhaustion with the pillow wrapped around my head. Haha.

I want to go to the pasar malam now to buy the Malay nasi goreng and the fried chicken! But nobody wants to go with me…haih. Oh, and it finally rained today. Joy of joys for that.

I’ll be going to Malacca after my finals. :D A very thorough plan needs to be done…but in the meantime, any Malacca locals willing to take us around?

Boomboxx’s Grand Opening April 26, 2009

Filed under: Events, Kampar Life — ponnie @ 3:18 pm

Okay, this happened like, damn long ago. And I’m blogging about it when I should be cramming for Comm Research Methods tomorrow. But fuck it lah. :D

So anyway, about Boomboxx. When the invitation cropped up in Facebook, I was like wow, a club in Kampar? Definitely unbelievable. What more, the flyer looked pretty cool, so I thought it would be an okay enough place, probably like Sincero in Ipoh (though I’ve never been inside there before). Most of my housemates agreed to go for the opening, along with a few (actually, a lot LOL) other friends.

The day before the opening, Apple and I searched for the place, to no avail. We couldn’t find it! There was no signboard, nothing at all. I even thought it was this corner lot because there was a corner lot with no signboard, but it was renovated to look pretty nice.

The next day when we went, we were disappointed. But not too disappointed, because whaddya expect, this is Kampar after all. But what really turned me off was this:

In the flyer, it just said “Boomboxx”. The actual signboard says Golden Boomboxx Cafe. Tell me lah, how lala is this? Golden?? Even Gold sounds better, but if possible, omitting the ‘Golden’ and ‘Cafe’ would be the best. There were hardly anybody our age inside too. Just a couple of middle aged Indian men, and two or three not-so-young Chinese people.

The place was terribly small too. Just one shoplot. One. One floor as well. The decoration of the place was epic fail, and the only possibly cool thing about the place was the green laser light thingamajig. And the only alcohol they had was beer! BEER. Carlsberg. I’m not fussy about what type of beer, but apparently most preferred Heineken. I’m just sad they didn’t have liquor.

Nonetheless, we decided the night was still young (around 10-something) and we were going to make this our own party. The first DJ (I think there were four that night) played trance music I think; not my thing. I prefer hip hop and r&b, cause I just don’t know how to groove to trance. But then again, I cannot really groove so yeah. :P Pictures below will be in non-chronological order. All pictures are pilfered from Chiu Yan, Brian and Facebook.

Carlsberg. Haih. No vodka. That’s Say Tar and Jeremy, my housemates.

Apple and I. Wow, look at my long hair. x) *reminisces* It’s so shiny! And there I am eyebrow-less again and sans braces.

My fringe was quite long then, eh. It looks pretty good after I wash my hair, but after a long day at school, the hot and humid weather, my hair looks like an oily pile of crap.

And yes, I had just washed my hair before going out. That’s Karen by the way. She’s two years my senior in high school. :D

The slitty eyed people. :x

The few above were taken early in the night. As you can see, we were still very sober, and the hype hadn’t caught on to us. Yet.

I didn’t know any of them save for Baron, the guy on the extreme left. The second guy from the left seems not bad looking here. I do know he’s in the Dance Club, and he always wears these huge ass glasses. The guy beside me is not from UTAR…you’ll have to ask Apple, since he chatted with her more. :P No guys chatted me up. :( So sad.

Baron the shuffle king doing his thing. Haha.

Spot me! And see what I meant about those glasses. Looks like there’s a lot of people, right? Most of them were friends of our friends. So we’re all practically friends. I think. xD

Still not very high yet. Cause I don’t see that ‘glint’ in my eye. And no megawatt smile. I only flash the megawatt smile when I’m hyper. :D

Oh me gawds can see the gap. THE gap. Now that I have braces on I hope they’ll close quickly. Today is day 6 since I put on my braces. I cannot wait to take them off. -_-

Now kids, below is what happens when you drink too much beer:

You start making out with your housemate of the same sex. :D

Just kidding. Don’t lock my toilet door Brian!!!

Mmm. Signs of me getting hyper. :D

If The Gap wasn’t there, this would be a very nice picture.

Yup, I’m getting hyper already. x)

Woah. When Karen first came in, she was so shy to take off her jacket. After a few bottles of beer and some coaxing from us, she wasn’t so shy anymore. xD

Sheryll and Elaine.

Brian and Ming-Y, who makes a rare appearance! :D

Jon and his convict face. See lah Jon, you look so horny here LOL.

And you look so happy here. Like a small kid. xD

No comment. Absolutely no comment. :P

…and then I started dancing on the stool. :D

Pictures below shows how crazy we were that night. There were people smoking, puking, making out…but not me. Clubbing isn’t the boyfriend’s favourite scene, so no making out for me that night. No puking either, cause I only drank about one or two bottles of beer. Small pints.

The girl in the middle is not me ah. That’s Sheryll.

See see. Make out somemore.

Amelia looks like she’s going down on me…HAHA.

Vendell: Hey Amelia, what you doing!

Amelia: Woooo!

So that was it. The place wasn’t really nice, but what made it fun was the crowd. I heard that there was an even better party after this, which happened like last Thursday. I didn’t go, cause most of my friends didn’t want to go. I also just went there yesterday night with Amelia, Apple, Brian, and Jeremy for drinks. There were only four other people other than us. I personally would’ve preferred going to 21st because at least we could have a decent conversation there, but cheap beer wins atmosphere anytime. :D

After that, we had a random trip up to Ipoh for McDonald’s. On the way there, there was a roadblock and we were so hoping that they wouldn’t stop us and make us take that breath test to see if you have alcohol or whatever. They did stop us and checked our ICs, but no breath test. :P We even joked around with the officers…I guess they were bored. Ah well. Gossiped in McD’s and then we went home.

I think, any UTAR student in Kampar with a car would’ve surely gone on a really random and sudden trip at least once. At least. Just last week, I saw pictures on FB when Esther, Doyou and gang went on a random trip to Lumut at 3am to watch the sunrise…

I wanna do that!! Apple, hint hint LOL.
