Hello. It’s been awhile since I last blogged, I think I’ve forgotten how to do so already.
So…what have I been up to? A lot, apparently. Last Tuesday I attended an interview for a job offer as a Maxis promoter. The course of the interview itself was a disaster, as we were put through hell (and a lot of waiting) for three freakin’ hours. The interview took only like, 10 minutes or so, but by then I couldn’t care less about whether or not I got the job, so I basically did not try very hard for the interview.
And I got the job. Amazing, isn’t it? Training was last Friday, and we were basically briefed through our jobs, and it was kind of information overload. They said they would email us the slides from the day’s briefing, but I didn’t get it. I also didn’t get the SMS regarding the location of the meet up point for the following Wednesday, but nevertheless I got it from Apple so it’s cool.
First day of work was on Wednesday. Basically, my job was to approach people and ask them if they were Maxis users. If they’re not, we brief them through MNP (that’s Mobile Number Portability for you) and if they are already Maxis users, get them to buy Caller Ringtones, activate their 3G, GPRS, and download Games etc etc etc.
If you know me well you know I dislike talking. And I’m terribly shy around strangers. And I hate talking to people I don’t know. Not exactly the perfect job for me, but seeing as I’m majoring in Journalism I might as well get my hands dirty.
We cover three locations in a day, and on my first day the first location was Taman Megah in PJ, near Ming Tien foodcourt. Weather was scorching, people to talk to were scarce, and…what else? I got shooed for going inside Ming Tien to “promote” my stuff.
Second location was PJ state, not any better than the previous stop. It had to rain too. I think I looked like a deranged person with my hair flying around and fringe matted to my forehead, maybe that’s why a lot of people ran away from me.
Last stop was at PJ Old Town Bus Station. Probably the best place to do promotions. Within 3 minutes we were done talking to the people there. But luckily for us, it’s a bus stop, so people do come and go. And I think I had the best response there than the previous two locations, so yeah.
But let’s talk about my colleagues! There are 24 of us, all separated into three teams. Unluckily, I was separated from Apple as they didn’t want friends to be in the same team. Whoopee. Anyway, my team has three girls including me, and five guys not including the supervisor aka driver.
Now I only know the names of my female colleagues and supervisor, but I can’t catch the other five guys names. ><”
But rest assured, we do talk. Yeah, seriously. They talk to me in Mandarin/Cantonese, and I reply in English. Cool eh?
Moving on. Two of the girls are from UTAR!! One’s in Kampar, the other in Sg Long. So cool haha. There are UTAR students all over Malaysia…the girl studying in Kampar is Vivian, and the other girl’s name is Angie.
Supervisor is Vincent, and he used to study in SMK USJ12. Amazing! I didn’t expect anyone from Subang Jaya to be working there, cause most of them are from around KL.
Second day was much better though. Locations were around Subang Jaya, and first location is near Sunway Pyramid! I was like, so excited! Pyramid! I know where that is!! I’m familiar!!
Guess what? I worked with my cousin too on my second day. -___- So didn’t expect him to be one of the Maxis dealers, when I saw him I was so surprised. So was he. Anyway I was more confident to approach people then, so it was quite okay. There were these two guys doing some stuff for Bar BQ Plaza…I can’t say that they’re giving out flyers, because they aren’t exactly doing so. It’s sorta like, pay RM30, then you can eat as much as you want?? Unsure. Anyway, they were really cool and funny, so he promoted his stuff and I promoted mine.
Second location was at SS15, near Asia Cafe. I was kind of afraid that I might bump into some people I know and they’d be all cool like, sipping Starbucks and not all sweaty and I’m walking around in the sun and rain all hot and sweaty and so uncool.
I did see some people I know. =/
Last stop was in front of Summit, which was good, ’cause it meant that I don’t need to go home from Taman Tun which was wayyyy far from my home.
And that was the last day of my work. Seriously. I just worked for two days. I’m supposed to work for a month, at least that’s what my agent told me. Then I found out we actually had to work for a month and a half, and that wasn’t what I signed up for. Plus it was kind of tiring working like that, walking around all day, talking to strangers, keeping your cool when they blow you off…I know I’m being a complete pussy.
I think I kind of regretted giving up the job. :( I like my colleagues, and I’m not getting any pay for just two days of working. So there goes my RM2k sigh.
I actually have another job, which is making Powerpoint slides for this tuition centre, but I don’t know how’s the pay like. Probably a hundred or so, but there’s no satisfaction in getting a big amount after a hard day’s work. Oh well, no point crying over spilt perfume, all I can do is hope that I can get that other job next week, so at least I’ll have the dough to pay for somebody’s present I’m eyeing.
Another reason why I quitted is also ’cause my dad…that complete worrier…waits for me to finish work AFTER his work finishes. He finishes at 6pm, and I at 8pm. So he’ll go somewhere for his dinner, which means he ain’t eating dinner at home, which means my mum is eating dinner alone. Imagine this going on for a month and a half. Gawd, does he think I’m still a small kid?
Guess it’s back to facing the laptop the whole day, doing slides…
P.S. If anybody has any job offers for events, anything that covers only a few days, please inform me. Thanks a lot. Mwah!
